American Home Shield Home Protection Plan – New Product Overview

All new warranties called in on or after October 15, 2014 will fall under the new plan.

All warranties that are called in on or before October 14, 2014 will fall under the current Core Coverage or Flex Plan Combo plans.

The new plan has 3 buyer options: Shield Essential covers Systems, Shield Plus adds in Appliances and Shield Complete adds in Additional Home Items. (Good, better & best.)

Improved coverage: The Shield Plus and Shield Complete packages now include Washer, Dryer and Refrigerator coverage. Under the current plans these are buyer only options.

Same level of coverage across all packages: Under the current program, Core coverage does not include coverage for Refrigerant Recapture, Reclaim and Disposal, Removal of Defective Equipment, Mismatched Systems, Undetectable Pre-Existing Conditions, Improper Installations, Repairs or Modifications, Permits ($250 Per Agreement Term) and Code Violations ($250 Per Agreement Term). Previously, you had to buy up to the Flex Plan Combo to get these items. Now these elements are included in all 3 new products.

Sellers can be covered during the listing period under Shield Essential package. (Our extensive research told us that sellers only wanted the most expensive repair types covered.)

Improved coverage for sellers: Under Core Coverage and Flex Plan Combo for sellers there is a $1,500 limit that AHS will pay for Heating, Air Conditioning and Ductwork. Under the new Shield Essential plan, there is a $2,000 coverage limit for all items.

Under the new plans, AHS offers a lower price for homes less than 10 years of age. (The age of the home is determined at the time the warranty is called in.)

AHS offers pricing for pricing for condo/townhome/mobile home and for new construction homes.

The seller can be covered under the Shield Essential product during the listing period for only $65. (Take buyer price and add $65.) (Seller gets up to $2,000 in coverage for $65.)

Additional buyer options are available. These include additional refrigerators, well pump and septic system pumping & septic sewage ejector pump, swimming pool, spa equipment, swimming pool/spa equipment (shared equipment) and saltwater pool equipment.

The Trade Service Call fee remains the same at $75.
