Sad news

Our thought and prayers go out to Alice Leeper and family. Alice's mother passed away on Friday.


Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 20, at Parker-Millard Funeral Service with burial to follow in Columbia Cemetery. A visitation for family and friends will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 19, at Parker-Millard Funeral Service.


Edith was born July 3, 1931, in Naylor, Missouri. After graduating from high school, she moved to St. Louis to study nursing through the Missouri Baptist Hospital nursing program. After becoming a registered nurse, she moved to Columbia, enrolling in the bachelor's program in nursing through the University of Missouri and working at Ellis Fischel Hospital.

Edith met and married her husband, Claude K. Leeper, M.D., in June 1954 in Columbia. The couple had five children and were married for 37 years prior to his death in 1993. In 1958, Dr. Leeper entered the U.S.  Air Force, moving the family to Washington D.C., Wiesbaden, Germany and San Antonio, Texas, over the course of the next 16 years. The family came back to Columbia in 1974 and settled into life in mid-Missouri.

Edith was an active member of the Booneslick Trail Quilters' Guild for over 35 years. She was an avid collector of quilts, quilt tops and Kansas City Star quilt patterns.

Edith was preceded in death by her parents, John Marshall Marlin and Nora Mohan Marlin; her husband, Claude Kirkpatrick Leeper; and her son Samuel Kirkpatrick Leeper and several siblings.

Edith is survived by her brother, Charles L. Marlin of Clarion, Pennsylvania; her children, Alice K. Leeper, Dorothy M. Leeper, and Joseph K. Leeper (Joan) all of Columbia, and Edith L. Poole (Shaun) of Palo Alto, California; as well as her grandchildren Kathryn E. Leeper of Columbia and Emma C. Poole and Henry M. Poole of Palo Alto, California.
